I am deep in the Apple ecosystem, am a professional photographer (use iPad/Mac/iPhone for work) and still know this is an overhyped monitor. It has pretty bad reviews overall as a result
It's also odd that it's a better deal to just buy an entire iMac for the 4.5k screen for $1200 instead of this MONITOR with 5k for $1300-1600. They are almost indistinguishable screens and its such a strange pricing structure on Apple's part. This should be an $800 monitor at most

It has the best color accuracy of any 5K 218ppi monitor -- that's basically the reason you'd choose this monitor over the other 5K@218 ppi monitors. Sadly, the brightness and contrast are pretty comparable to the cheaper options from Samsung and ASUS (although the value proposition is different with those monitors so it's not fair to compare on price alone).
It really only excels at graphic design use cases; if you're editing HDR video you'd probably be better off with the ASUS PA27JCV 5K monitor. That said, the speakers are pretty terrible on the Samsung and ASUS while the speakers are great on the Apple model. So, you have to carefully choose what is important to you in a monitor. For me, the display is the most important part... I don't care about the speakers, built in camera, aluminum chassis, stand, etc. because they don't matter to me or I'm going to get a better stand alone version of that feature anyway.
It's a lot of money to spend on a display where most specs are worse than the display they have been putting in their macbook pros, ipads, and iphones for the past few years. I really want to love this display, and there are rumors of a refresh coming in the first half of 2025, so hopefully we'll at least get the same mini LED backlight technology that they're using in the macbook pros. If they do that, I'd be willing to pull the trigger on this $1300+ display. Until then, my choice would either be the ASUS or Samsung models (those two models have the same panel, but the panel is tuned a little differently, again... depending on what you want to use it for, one is going to be a better choice than the other).
LG was the first to release a stand alone 218 ppi monitor in 2019. It was very successful with mac users, and Apple released this monitor a couple years later. Now Samsung and ASUS (and soon BenQ) have 218 ppi monitors available. If you don't have a mac, don't bother with this monitor. If you do have a mac, and you want the text to be just as crisp and the color to be just as accurate as it is on the macbook pro screens, then this might be for you (especially if your profession relies on those things).
218 ppi monitors range in price from about $600 (used) up to $5000+ on the high end (Apple's 32" 6K Pro Display XDR). All of them are 27" except for Apple's 6K 32" option (you need 6K when you go to 32" to maintain 218 ppi).

For the longest time, the lack of laptop with touchscreen kept me from getting Apple. Now that I've learned about the stupid resolution issue. Recently, I also learned about the ewaste issue, since Apple doesn't allow unlocking of hardware without the previous owner's permission. So...
Apple: foolish, incompetent, and wasteful.
But hey, at least you get... um... a blue conversation or some such garbage.

But I've been looking for a monitor that has good integrated sound system and found none of the monitors have it. I'm sick of heaving tons of wires and adaptors on/under/near my desk and I've been looking for solution to simplify my desk setup without affecting sound/mic performance. Currently I have 4 huge adaptors behind my monitor (each for monitor, CalDigit TS4 hub, Bose speaker, and a laptop) along with tons of wires going between computers/monitors/mic/speakers/hub/etc). I spent significant amount of time to declutter my desk but never could achieve clean look. I can't put adaptors on the ground because my desk is adjustable height, so I can't risk my desk pulling some wires off and trip some expensive devices while going between sitting and standing.
This monitor with good speaker/mic/hub will eliminate almost all of my adaptors/wires. And I'll probably sell my CalDigit hub, Bose speaker, and a monitor to recoup some of that cost.
