A 27" display for $1300 sounds a lot like a 8GB Ram MacBook for $1000.

I'm heavily in the apple ecosystem but their studio display is a major no-go. 60hz and limited to just one device at a time with no options for hdmi or DP are a joke for that kind of price. They get away with it bc of the premium design/material and bc it's apple and fanboys will eat it up. $1300 can get get you a top of the line 32" or ultrawide OLED with significantly better display quality with way more ports and versatility. Even if you stuck with Mac only you can't even have a Mac mini and MacBook hooked up to this at the same time. What other monitor would get away with having a single input connection?

If they did that, they wouldn't be able to sell this screen at this price. They don't want to cannibalize their own products. For Apple the price is a feature, not a bug.

I don't buy any apple products. Literally never had an apple phone. But seeing this monitor in person is a whole different level. I don't believe the specs alone do it justice.

I genuinely hope they release a pro motion version of this with a higher refresh rate. I belong to a specific group of individuals who play games on Macs!

If it's useless, why put it in there? Why people upgrade iPhone or Mac? 2019 CPU is a fact. I have entire Apple ecosystem in the family, I am not an apple hater, but this monitor is long in teeth.

Honestly, is it worth the premium? For most people, realistically probably not. I have one and I absolutely love it. I got it for the same sale price last year. The experience of using a normal monitor and external webcam with a MacBook is just crappy enough that going all in on the Studio Display satisfied my needs. I like the built in webcam, the 5K resolution is nice, the sound is absolutely fantastic for being built in, a single thunderbolt cable connection to my MacBook Pro and I'm on the go. And most importantly: it just works… no resuming from standby issues like I've had with other displays on Mac OS. Is that by design? Who knows, maybe haha. I think even on sale it is overpriced.. but dang it, it's such a nice experience. I want ProMotion and an OLED display someday.. but shudder to think what Apple will charge for that! Anyhow, if your beholden to the forbidden fruit as I am, it's worth it. If you're the average user (or a PC user) there's absolutely no good reason to buy it.

That Dell is nice, but it's not a true 5k monitor. It's got 5k wide, but 4k tall which gives it a PPI of only about 140 whereas the primary reason for a true 5k 27" monitor or 6k 32" monitor is to hit the magic PPI of 220. Apple doubles everything up and so when you use scaling and don't have a 5k monitor everything looks off just a bit. I've currently got a 4k 27" and it looks good, but text isn't super crisp and scaled to 1440 I sometimes get this moire effect which is why I'm stepping up to a ASD 5k as soon as it arrives.

I'm sure there will be in time, but Thunderbolt 3 and 4 can't support enough bandwidth to get a 5k 120hz resolution. Thunderbolt 5 should, but we've only just started to get TB5 machines and monitors have not adopted the new standard just yet. So in time we can hopefully get 5-8k monitors with higher refresh rates.

Thunderbolt 4 will do 2 4k @120hz, but only 1 5k because 5k has 77% more pixels than a 4k monitor does.
