LOL...I thought "3W" was a typo and assumed "mini" meant toaster size. Naw, this is MUCH smaller. Kinda neat though.

These things have always been nothing but a novelty. Think about the worst sounding cheap fuzz pedal you can find and then play it through your clock radio. Fun gimmick for about 30 minutes.

I have one of these -- a white elephant gift.

Think of this as a desk toy. It's just a decorative mini amp to decorate your office like a bobble head figurine. Not worth using it to play an instrument, IMHO. It is cute, however.

When I play in the office, I use a Boss Katana Go played into a Blu-Tooth speaker with an aux in via a hardwire plug, instead of playing through headphones. You can sound really good at low volumes.

Of course, my solution is *much* pricier, but I figure some folks may already have the speaker and Katana Go or similar, already.

Years ago I bought one of those cigarette box amps. I probably used it a few times within the first month and that's about it.

I got one a couple of days ago...not impressed. It's very noisy and it's impossible to get just a simple clean sound. If you like punk overdriven sound it's ok....and it gets pretty loud. If you wanted just a little amplification for travel so you can practice Autumn Leaves or Misty, I'd pass.

I got one for my daughter who just started lessons and for someone who doesn't know what tone is its totally fine for her to practice in her room with. It also doesn't get loud enough to disturb everyone else which is nice. It's a cheap practice amp and nothing more. Definitely not worth $70, but for $30 it seems pretty good for what it is.

Best with Polaroid 9V batteries. Don't let them catch you with those Rayovacs!

Does anyone make a decent mini amp? 9v? 1995 wants their battery back. Where are the Li-ion with USB-C rechargeable units?

Check out the "positive grid spark" brand they make some great sounding small amps

  1. MVAVE CubeBaby $30 use your own headphones, or speaker (12" V30 guitar voiced is best).

2. Used Katana (around $150) way under new prices. 100's have more umph. 50 is lighter. Gen 3 are cool, but yesterdays mark II are easier bargains.

3. Tubes: Watch (year-end fast discount for a few hours) for a total shipped price under $225 on the Monoprice 15W combo tube amp; but likely a good tested, used one, is faster to find.

Then there's repairing, for close to zero, if you are on a strict budget. (But not tubes if you are not high voltage trained, you could die easily, even unplugged). There's enough used gear out there that works perfectly anyway.

Note: You can practice (electric) with what you have. Phone, computer, kids Karoke box, headphones, old stereo. However a device can sound better so it's more fun. And while that's does encourage practice, no gear will make you practice. Over priced gear can have the opposite effect. The idea is to not geek out over the gear and that is tough. See the big picture. Have fun. Save for ONE amp/system. You'll wind up with two anyway. Stop there. Sell first and don't over pay and then lose you shirt selling it off. Do your research first and this will minimize thrashing and it's high cost/losses. Folks are not paying more for used gear. Why would they? So start used is my advice, for slick cost control. And self control.

Combo's amps are a bargain; but consider piece meal gear separation. If you get each part at close to nothing or free discarded, used. This gives more options and easier to replace. Often with less depreciation. Appreciated gear is mostly a myth. Not a job. Depreciating it shall. Unless you buy low enough. A slick deal.

One way is to keep all the modeling stuff cheap and separate, like the Cube Baby (multi amp/effects/IR loader). But some things (parts in the chain) are (or sometimes can be) far less expensive combined. Like a low cost combo; where you mainly want the power amp (maybe even clean pre amp) and 12" guitar voiced speaker in a full resonant 1x12 cabinet. All this can be mobile, light weight and not require a computer to glitch. Technically you can mike up any small amp, or go direct to PA with a $30 cube Baby (and prob should); but you never know what you're going to get. So it's good to have your own. So save your money on practice only gear and consider a low cost gear set that can play bedroom volume or against a loud drummer, up to moderate venue gig, or practice. Even just for garage/basement band fun. And you tone is way different in a mix.

However, if you only stay home, and are recording then you need 16GB RAM, LinuxMint, Reaper and a world of free open stable software, matched with good speakers or even just headphones. Which should not be expensive. The computer can do everything; but is not trusted for serious gigs. Even at home you might want to dedicate a computer to only music, so you can optimize it without any CPU interruptions.

As far as the great tube vs. modeling(or other) debate, it's still both mixed; but it's time to realize SOME modeling has caught up and there are only slight difference the player can detect. And realistically it's hard now to say they matter much. Yes the great tones come from tubes (and mainly combined with their circuits and non tube boosts); but the new way is FAR cheaper, lighter and a bit more durable (depending on build quality). Do not discount non-tubes, or tubes. Combining them can actually be less expensive.

You will be pulled by famous names and looks; but that does not matter.
