Straps are average, it has a semi-rigid back that is straight. I agree it is not "supportive", but the purpose of this bag is to act as a personal item for carry-on flights. It only has one clamshell main compartment and you can attach it to luggage through the extendable handles.
This backpack is perfect to me for weekend flights; this is the only bag I carry when I visit friends or family for the weekend, traveling with no other bags is great. If you treat this bag as an all day bag, it can get uncomfortable, but this is dependent on how much you load it. I never had that issue and I think it's overblown from reviews. At $82, this is a quality made backpack with lifetime warranty from Osprey. I can't think of another competitive big brand that can offer this much for this price point that is a travel bag.
I have three Osprey backpacks of various sizes and they are good quality. The company also stands over their products. However, one of my backpacks is similar to this one although smaller, and it is not good. Once I have a bottle of water and some other stuff in it, it's uncomfortable and tiring. The reason is mainly the thin shoulder straps. I can only image how much worse a larger backpack with maybe books or a laptop in it would be.
As for the price. $82 is plenty for a smallish backpack with little support. It's hardly a hot deal, even from Osprey.
Have used just this bag for 3 week trips, 20k steps a day. No waist strap isn't an issue imo since the bag is quite short, it's not a hiking bag. Straps aren't the nicest I've felt but not too uncomfortable even on just a tshirt.
