At this price, I would expect it to just pickup rice, wash it and cook it for me

Cooks better in a dedicated rice cooker. Definitely don't have to buy $200 ones though. $100 zojirushi will be fine.

If you can't tell the difference between rice from ipot vs fine Asian restaurant, you don't need this. However it does have mode to cook 2 cups of rice in 12 minutes and keep it seal, warm and fresh for several days.

Have zeroshi and cuckoo, chuckoo indeed made better rice with high pressure setting. If you haven't try real good high pressure steam cooked rice, you are missing out

Rice snobs are a thing. It's crazy. On Reddit they act as if Rice is the main dish, not a side or starch add.

That's literally the mindset coded into Japanese language. They treat rice as the center of the meal, with the word okazo meaning side dishes you eat with rice. So the idea that rice is just some interchangeable starch on the side is almost the reverse of the traditional Japanese framing. Not saying everyone has to be a rice snob, but there is definitely a cultural reason people take the rice itself seriously.

I've been to Japan. They have awesome steak houses, and I don't even think they served rice at any of them. Same goes for S. Korea. The Chinese serve a LOT of rice, but they don't treat it as something special, and a lot of it gets thrown out after every meal. I spent a lot of time in the SE Asia region for work, and I don't recall any of the half dozen country's I stayed in for months at a time treating rice like the center of a meal.
