If you're cutting the entire length of the track you can't put the clamps on top of the track. These slide into the channels under the track to get them out of the way of the cut

Wow. These are really expensive for what they are. What makes these $40 clamps better than the $17 Wen pair or even the $23 Powertec?versions? Are they stronger than the ratcheting versions?

Nothing, these are overpriced as hell. You don't need that much clamping power anyway, there's already anti slip pads on the back of guide rails these are basically just added security. There's no need to spend more than about $20 on them.

sometimes i don't even bother to take out my track saw clamps and just use some $2 spring clamps on the corners.
