No, you cut off the oxygen by sliding in metal plates when you're done cooking so the rest of your charcoal is saved.

I've had mine for 4+ years and have done a ton of cooks. This thing really works great. I throw some wood chunks in as well to get extra smoke. The computer for me has given me the most issues, disconnects a lot and over time the screen has faded. But i am able to get it set to the temp i want and do my cooks! Also really helps if you can give it a strong wifi signal.

came here to say the same thing.. my temp setting knob and the computer was very wonky.. I reached out to them and they refused to honor the warranty . I had a back and fourth conversation with them about how the electronics on the electric smokers were supposed to be covered within the time frame I had contacted them ( And I purchased the unit directly from them) and they not only refused to cover the items they were actually rude.. I will never do business with them again.. its a shame because I thought it did the best job on a brisket.

No you close the vents and choke the air stops it where u left it
