Not to mention, animation and actual video are entirely different beasts and Disney really pounded their chest about that Snow White remaster while many Bluray rereleases (not remasters) are still in their original format and resolution. They simply copied the same video to a different media format. If I take a 480p video and burn it to a Bluray disc....does that mean the video is now in 4K?!? Magic!!!!!!!
P.S. That wasn't "unthinkably high resolution"....see Ben Hur 1959. That was roughly 8K.
You seem to be conflating a lot of topics. Disc formats magically upscaling themselves, digital pixels vs actual "resolution" etc. Clearly this ain't your topic. Lot has changed in vids since 1900

How is a DVD "outdated?" Still plays on Bluray players and unless you need the extra file space, there is little to zero benefit for the more expensive format that just limits audiences and potential buyers. (which because of the source material could include a lot of older people who may not have or care about buying a Bluray player) You might as well serve a .99 cent Taco Bell burrito wrapped in a $100 bills...will still taste the same.

I honestly did not know that there was anyone still using TVs with 480 resolution (other than my neighbor for his 'vintage gaming' experience).
If that's really what older people are commonly using, then that is a great reason to keep making DVDs

And no, I'm not "overreacting." I calmly pointed out your reasoning was flawed and explained why. Sorry if you overreacted to facts or perceived "snark" when there was none. My bad, I didn't know cold hard truths were so triggering. (that's snark BTW) I was only trying to help you understand there no real downside, a large cost savings (manufacturing and consumer), and 100% backward compatibility for DVD's compared to Blurays when the content does NOT require the more expensive discs.
Seriously and legit question, what benefit do you see for paying MORE for the same quality and resolution video just because the box says Bluray? This is your goalpost, this is what you pretend to want to discuss but you've seem to have abandoned the topic. Please enlighten me. And again, we aren't talking about remasters, upscaled, etc. Same video, different disc format.

Since the kids say that 35mm film is 6k resolution, Paramount can still cash in with a 4k and maybe even an 8k transfer in the future; because I don't doubt the fans will buy it.
Myself, paying less than $2 per bluray for the complete Next Gen box set seems like a good value. I would have saved a giant $6 had I bought the DVD set instead.
Now, if Paramount wants to remaster DS9 in Bluray or 4k, they can take another $75 of my money.
If you believe Paramount marketing department, they made a big deal that they got the original film reels out for the Bluray transfer, offering a 'drastic upgrade' in resolution from the DVD box set.
The original films were completely rescaned, and special effects were rerendered.

Lets try to explain this slowly....IF....YOU....TAKE....THE....SAME....VIDEO....AND....PUT...IT....ON...A....DIFFERENT....DISC....THE....VIDEO....DOESN'T....CHANGE....THEREFORE...THERE....IS....NO...FUNCTIONAL....DIFFERENCE...BETWEEN...QUALITY....BETWEEN.....FORMATS....SINCE...THE ....SOURCE....CONTENT....IS....UNCHANGED.....SO....THERE....IS....LITTLE....REASON....TO....PAY....EXTRA....FOR....BLURAY....IF....THE....CONTENT....IS....NOT....CHANGED.

BTW, I agree DS9 needs a remaster. I tried to copy my DS9 DVD's to Blurays but the output wasn't magically 16K....
Tom Hardy is great, and it has one of the best space battles in the entire series.
Some basement Trekkies get very emotional, especially if their mom has not brought down any pizza rolls or Raisin Bran to their bedroom.
