Interesting in this deal. Once it unlocks after 2 months, can I give it to my parents who leaves overseas and use the sim/plan in another unlocked phone in the US? The second US phone will be old and will only used for emergency purposes. TIA
Don't swap the SIM of a TF-branded phone to another phone because it's paired to the IMEI of the original phone. After this phone is unlocked, you can transfer its service (phone number, balances/days) to another unlocked phone with a TF BYOD SIM Kit. The SIM Kit is $5 at Target, Best Buy, dollar stores, etc. Then give this phone to your parents.

Just an FYI: lot of complaints about the phone performance for this particular model. Curious if anyone has firsthand experience with it.
I have a Moto G 2024. It's very slow.

I was about to pull the trigger on this but after researching looks like the One year plan won't count as paid service for the auto unlock, has anyone had any success with the One year plan to unlock a device?
Where did you do your research? I bought a TF iphone13 in August this year with a 90-day plan and it was unlocked in October. I don't see why a One Year plan wouldn't unlock it.

The plain Moto G is low-end. The Moto G Power is several levels higher.

You can always add 3GB of data with 1000 reward points or $10 to bump up his data bucket. Is he currently on Tracfone?
Thanks. He's not. He was like 5, 6 years ago. I doubt he remembers his old account info or if the reward points are still there

I already have Tracfone prepaid service with a old phone. Can I to take advantage of this without losing my number and unused minutes?

You can. If your current phone is in a TF account, log into that account; if not just go to Tracfone.com . Click on ACTIVATE at the top of the screen then follow the flow of questions. When it asks if you want a New Phone Number or Keep Your Number, select Keep Your Number and enter the number of your current phone. It will text a code to your current phone, respond with that code. It will activate your new phone with a transfer of phone number, balances/days from your current phone, then the one year of service and units that come with this phone will be added on top.

Thank you! If I hate this phone, can I go back to my old one?

Yes. Just (RE)ACTIVATE your old phone with a transfer from the new phone. If you do that before the 60th day, the new phone won't be unlocked.

For those wanting to transfer minutes while keeping the same number.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TracFone...vice_to_a/

You might want to take a screen shot of your existing minutes before you do the transfer, just in case.

I agree. I have had several Tracfones with these minimal annual plans and the phones do unlock after 60 days. In fact, I activate the phone, put it away for 2 months occasionally charging, and voila, I have an unlocked phone to transfer to another carrier.

OK, so after 60 days when the phone is unlocked. Can I re-activate my old phone with the old SIM card?

If your old phone is TF-branded, TF usually reuse its original SIM card. If it's a non-TF phone with a BYOP SIM, most of the time they make you get a new BYOP SIM.
