Slickdeals Secret Santa 2012

We all like to buy stuff. We all like to give stuff. Secret Santa is all of that!

*The Rules*

You need to have been a member for at least six months with 1000 posts OR 100 reps.

This isn't done to be mean or exclusive. However I know the biggest reason I've had fun with Secret Santa in previous years is because I've known the person well enough to be able to know what they'd truly like and be excited to hear what they think about it. If you don't have enough posts/reps this for this years Secret Santa, we hope you can join us next year

You need to sign up by November 9th.

To do this please PM me you name and address. I will confirm that I have everything I need by PM also.

Please write your screen name in the title so I can keep the addresses sorted more easily. In order to have your name added to the list of participants you need to send me your address. As with every year, this address will only be seen by me and the person who is sending you the gift. Under no circumstances will your address ever be given out to anyone else. If it's found someone has given out another person's address they got from the Secret Santa they will be banned from this and future Secret Santas.

I can only put your name in the list of participants once I have received your shipping address.

Spending limit is $20.00 plus shipping.
I know many of us have had some hard times with money in the past year. $20.00 is the limit but you do Not have to spend that much. From what I've seen in the past, some of the best/funniest/most thoughtful gifts haven't always been the most expensive. Just send what you think will make the person you're sending the gift to smile.

Your gift must be shipped by December 10th. If you're chronically late, way too busy or just plain flaky please consider this before you sign up. You must get a delivery confirmation and a tracking number just in case the gift gets lost in the mail or if there is any confusion about if the package has been delivered or not. Please send me that tracking number. Four weeks of shopping should be plenty of time to find something for your person.

You will need to fill out the Secret Santa questionnaire found at the bottom of this post.
Please fill this out as much as you can. It will make it easier for your Secret Santa to find something you truly like if you answer it completely.

So you're excited to participate. What happens now?

1.) PM on or before Friday November 9th that you want to participate. Include your shipping address. You will not be added to the list unless I have received your address. There will also be a list in the wiki of people who are participating. Please include your name there as well.

2.) You will see a questionnaire at the end of this post. Please answer those questions and make a new post with those answers.

3.) Soon after the November 9th cut off date you will receive the name and address of the person you get to play Secret Santa for. Click on the person's name in the wikipost to be taken to their questionnaire and what they've said they'd like.

4.) Get it all ready and ship by Monday December 10th. Make sure to buy the delivery confirmation and tracking number. Please PM me that you have shipped it and the tracking number. USPS gives it free for online ordering.

5.) Please PM me when you have received your gift.

6.) Jump up and down with joy. A present!! You can post in the thread you received it and if you opened it you can share what you got if you like.

7.) After Christmas Day we can all tell everyone who we shopped for. It will also be updated in the wiki. Please try to keep secret as much as you can who you are shopping for.

*FAQ*

Can I open the package as soon as I get it or do I need to wait until Christmas?
Some people can't wait to rip into the package and others want to save the excitement for Christmas Eve/Day. The choice is completely yours.

What if I'm going to be out of town around the time the gift will be arriving?
It's understandable that this time of year people travel out of town to see family and friends. If that's the case, please make sure to have your deliveries held at the post office/UPS/etc. If you know in advance you will be out of town, you can contact me with the dates you'll be gone and I'll let your SS know. They may be able to adjust when they ship it so it will get to you while you are there.

Crap. I wanted to participate but now I can't for whatever reason. What do I do?
Life happens. We understand that. However please let me know this as soon as you realize you are unable to participate this year. This is very important.

I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to ship in time or I completely forgot I needed to buy/ship the gift by December 10. What do I do?
Let me know right away. It is very sad to hear about someone who's waiting everyday to see when their gift arrives only to not have it come. If for some reason it is shipped out later, I'll inform the person you are shipping it to that it may arrive a little late. However shipping it late is not ideal and I'm sure we will all be able to meet the shipping deadline.

Wow, I read my person's questionnaire but I still have NO idea what to get them or I have a question about something on their list. What should I do?
You can either email/PM me and I can contact your person and ask them for more info. You could also PM someone you know is their friend and ask them to ask your person for clarification on their list.

Can I request to be a particular person's Secret Santa?
No.

Can I change who I'm supposed to buy for once I receive their name?
No.

I was involved in previous years but didn't send a gift because I forgot/got busy/whatever. Can I enter this year?
I'm sorry but no.

An additional note from me in regards to this year's Secret Santa:

I will be working two jobs this holiday season and it may take me a day to reply to you. Rest assured I'll probably still reply quicker than Autumn.

Your gift must be shipped by December 10th. If you're chronically late, way too busy or just plain flaky please consider this before you sign up. Yes, I know I have now said this twice. Hint, hint.

Please be courteous to your fellow Loungers.

Have fun!!

The tracking number for my SS hasn't updated since it left here. I really hope it makes it. Frown
USPS really sucks about updating their tracking. That's why I ship UPS or FedEx.

Usually don't see tracking numbers update until it makes it to the destination post office. So that is like the day of delivery usually.

Hence why USPS tracking sucks. But it shows that you made an attempt to deliver. Whee

Still looking at the box under my tree. It's the only gift under the tree right now. Can't wait until Christmas!!
I don't have any gifts under my tree. Frown
That's because if I put anything under there, the kitties would open them before anyone else had a chance. laugh out loud

I have the very same problem you have. It is bad enough that I find missing ornaments as well as tree branches everywhere all because my kitties love to "play with the ornaments".LMAO

I don't have a tree up this year since I am going away...I will be opening my presents this weekend. My dad sent something to me as well, he and my sibs are doing their Christmas party this Sat. So in spirit I think I will open mine then too.

DW usually forces me to open mine as soon as I receive them since she wants to know what I got. I keep telling her to get an SD account and DW so she can participate. laugh out loud

I'm just concerned because it says delivery by today and I would assume it would show out for delivery. I want my $2.15 back for their crappy tracking service. Mad

Just kidding, but seriously.

Nope, that's the USPS. As others already said, that's why I pay more for UPS or FedEx. When they "track" your package, they really do.

It's not tracking, it's confirmation. I received an eBay purchase on Monday and the confirmation number shows it as still 3/4 of the way across the country!

Well, here's one package I had delivered to me, and the one I sent out. P

It's reasonable to expect that it would be more than just confirmation based on that. Or so I thought. laugh out loud
