100mb of data costs them probably 10 cents. If someone likes the free service, and decides to buy a paid esim from them, they make up for it in the very first purchase.

whatsapp is unlimited. I would say it is a good option when there is no data.

What is the "Catch"?There is no hidden subscription charge, but there are clear commercial mechanics and service constraints behind the offer:1. Customer Acquisition & "Foot in the Door"Installing an eSIM is often the highest hurdle for travel providers. Once Jetpac's eSIM is permanently stored on your phone, you are far more likely to buy a paid top-up from them rather than shopping around for Airalo, Nomad, or local physical SIMs when 100 MB runs out.2. 100 MB Is Extremely Small100 MB can easily vanish in a few minutes if background app refresh, iCloud/Google Photos syncing, or email updates are active. Once that buffer is gone, you lose general web browsing, email, and social apps until you purchase a data pack. 3. "Unlimited" App Usage Is Whitelisted & ThrottledThe company routes traffic through a specific gateway that whitelists domain names for WhatsApp, Google Maps, Uber, and Grab.On WhatsApp, text messages and light photos will transmit fine, but heavy activities like video calls, large media downloads, or backups are subject to bandwidth shaping/fair usage restrictions.4. Strict Timing LimitationsYou can only trigger the free 100 MB buffer a maximum of 4 times per calendar year, and each trip must have at least a 2-month gap between activations. It only activates outside your home country on international roaming networks. 5. Terms Can ChangeBecause it is a free promo tier, Jetpac's terms of service state that terms and promotional offerings can be modified, discontinued, or throttled at their discretion. Practical RecommendationIf you install it, go into your phone's cellular settings and turn Low Data Mode on for that eSIM line, and disable Background App Refresh across general apps. This prevents your phone from burning through the 100 MB buffer on invisible background syncs before you even open a browser.

Can I transfer my free eSIM or give it to my family and friends?

No. Your Eterna entitlement is linked to your verified account, phone number and eligible device. Do not resell or share the complimentary benefit for another person. Instead, your friends or family members can redeem their free eSIM on their own devices and enjoy all Eterna benefits.
