FWIW, for anyone else curious: an individual subscription is exactly $49.99 for the first year, and -- while it is set to autorenew by default -- you can cancel (and still enjoy the full year) in just a few clicks.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn how much more stuff than News that this includes, particularly a lot of video programming for learning, travel inspiration, and more.
If you hit the paywall on a BBC.com page just open it in incognito mode. Also, if you have uBlock Origin installed you will be spared any ads.
I'm originally from the UK and grew up respecting the quality of BBC content. In recent years though it has tanked. I still visit the site but it's definitely not worth paying for. I prefer reuters and apnews for factual reporting.

"This restaurant food has gone to shit! I'm gonna stop paying but continue to eat here!"

I continue to eat while I can get the food for free. If I had to pay for it I'd spend my money elsewhere.
Typical BBC News article nowadays...
Title: "Is Trump's popularity in the USA declining?"
Body: "Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah! Maybe. Maybe not. We can't say for sure."
Or perhaps...
Title: "Is there an AI stocks bubble that's about to burst?"
Body: " "Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah! Maybe. Maybe not. We can't know. What do you think?"
signed up and i wanted to cancel it so it doesn't auto renew but their terms doesn't talk about keeping the current subscription until next year. has anyone done it? do they give a pro-rated refund or you get to keep the subscription until next year?
edit: answering my own question: "You can cancel your subscription at any time. After you cancel you will continue to have access to subscription benefits until you reach your billing date. If you want to delete your account you need to cancel your subscription first."
