This is nice IF you only need a single NVME addon, but a PCI-E x16 can take a card that holds 3-4 pretty easily with decent performance, so that's the only thing to consider.

For $7 I'll keep it as a 'just in case' need for an itx build

I have 2 of these in my pc 256gb nvme maybe gen 2 or 3. They work fine. Not as fast as my 2tb Samsung 9100 pro but its gen 5. I'll probably run some games off of them with the Rtx 5090 that I just got, but I'm storing llms on my 1tb and 2tb 9100 pro drives. The 9950x3d and 64gb (2x32gb 6400mhz) don't mind the pcie adapters. I'm glad I got them with the price of nvmes and I didn't want to share bandwidth with the 9100 pro. Desperate for storage I even have an old 4tb 3.5" HDD, 1tb 2.5" wd ssd, 500gb 2.5 Samsung ssd. lol.

Maybe this is more like what I need... I probably have 20 256gb nvmes sitting around, maybe more.

One important thing to keep in mind whether bifurcation is supported by your motherboard. That's what allows a x16 PCIe to split into 4x4x4x4.

If your motherboard doesn't support bifurcation, only one drive will work in PCIe slot, even with multi drive adapter.

Most pre built office PCs (think Dell, HP, IBM, etc.) do not support bifurcation, so if you are planning to turn one of those into a home server by adding an NVMe drive, this adapter should serve you well. I'm currently using it in 3 of my IBM desktop servers.

I just ordered one. Discount applies only to one item (if you add more than one to the cart), and discount code only works on the first order.

...if your x16 slot supports bifurcation, yes. Not all do.

Thanks OP! I'm definitely in for one! I'm probably running on one of these as I type. I think this is the coolest thing since slice bread! And this particular enclosure is a quality enclosure as well. It may not be as simple as some latches, but it's very secure and heat dissipation is great. Why am I so stoked? Because these are the greatest ever for running a different operating system, or as I am right now, both a Linux and a Windows on the same machine. Also, it makes a great backup for your o/s, especially if running Linux on a BTRFS formatted drive where use can use sub-volumes and shadow copy. But the thing I get the most satisfaction from overall is the security I have that if the SHTF I can in less than 5 seconds pull the whole computer system out of my machine, throw it in my pocket or better yet a Faraday slip pocket for EMF protection and I am gone! Any decent newer model machine could put me right back in business in just a moment! How cool is that?! I suggest everyone have one of these or even a few of them and know what they are good for. If the discount had worked for more than one, I would have picked up three of them.
