this is SO MUCH BETTER than a lowend tablet. This is considered midend.

The audio is fantastic. You won't find better audio on any tablet, yes even iPad pros. Performance is mid-range but it is snappy for everyday tasks. Runs as a stand-alone bluetooth speaker. The ring/kickstand is all metal and sturdy and stiff. Hang it on a door knob or cabinet knob. Screen is nice for media consumption. Music and especially dialog, voice, podcasts are easy to hear. Long battery life and quick charging.

It is heavy though. Also I think it only has 2 OS version updates (up to Android 18) and 4 years of security patches (2030). Lenovo has been giving longer update support only on their high end tablets.

Tomsguide has it as their tablet of the year.

Would this make a good kids tablet if I add a case to it? Looking to upgrade from my old Amazon FireHDKids that have always been pretty terrible.

Get the 8gb Lenovo Idea Tab, this is a bit too much for a kids tablet and this tablet's screen is also big so a case won't protect it much from kids.

How old is the kid?

Lenovo is going to start making kids tablets though.

If you are paying for Amazon kids you'll lose access to a lot of apps/games on the Firetablet. The kids mode on android tablets is not bad though. It can teach them to read where it listens to how they read a book and helps w/ difficult words. It's called read along by google.

Hover over the site, add to cart, re-add to cart and a certain CB site gave me 100$ for orders over 350$. Bought 2. 100CB, 15 Lenovo Rewards, 23.75 CC CB; not a bad deal.

i've had a lenovo pro 11 gen 2 for a little over 3 years now and take it on every vacation, loaded a 1TB microSSD card with 30+ movies and TV shows and anime from my plex library and it functions great as a media player. No 3.5mm audio jack on it but it works fine with a 3.5mm->USB or over bluetooth. runs reddit, gmail, chrome, etc no problem either horizontal or vertical.

my tablet is OLED so not sure how the display is compared to this, hoping for newer mid tier cheap AMOLED tablets. one disappointing thing is most new tablets don't take microSD cards anymore, glad to see this one still does.

the closest successors to the p11 pro gen 2 are the 11" yoga tab gen 1 and 2. They both have ips screens but the gen 2 is 4k and really nice and sharper than the p11 from personal experience. I've tried all 3 and had no complains when even comparing to a samsung tab 9. The only new oled tablets now apart from Samsung are Chinese and expensive ($800+ to import) but recent tablet screen technology has improved to the point where IPS is nice especially when it supports dolby vision and has 600+ nit brightness.
