Don't use these. Any restriction in air flow is bad.
Clean your unit regularly.

This is perfectly fine for the fall and winter when you're not using your AC unit to keep leaves from getting down inside of it and blocking drainage holes.

Obviously if you're using it then don't use this. If you have a heat pump unit that is used year round for heat and AC then don't use this.
