I've come here to just say that this book is awesome. If you're on the fence just buy it. Audiobook is where the real magic is though. I recommend buying the first book there so you get all of the characters voices in your head and then reading.

I've come here to just say that this book is awesome. If you're on the fence just buy it. Audiobook is where the real magic is though. I recommend buying the first book there so you get all of the characters voices in your head and then reading.

Please just read it before they ruin it with a movie or series. You really need to cast these characters yourself, in your own mind, before they screw it up.

Which audiobook version? I think there is a more basic version, and then a more elaborate one with sound effects. (I looked this up a few weeks ago, but forgot the details.)

Two nerdy adults review. It's a fun read. Then you'll read book 2. Ok, enjoyable. And then you're good, because the rest of the series is incredibly similar.

One of the worst books I've ever read. Wouldn't surprise me to hear that ChatGPT wrote it as it's literally, 'make aliens rewrite the laws of the universe to replace reality with a tropey video game setting, add a bunch of one-note characters, and be sure to include every bad gaming cliche (loot boxes, micro transactions, intrusive ads, etc).

i bought all the audiobooks last time this was a deal. been hearing the hype for so long. got halfway through the first book and gave up. it's just a guy narrating a video game. funny for a little while, then its just repetitive. guess this is aimed at the younger generation.

i fully admit to being an outlier, heard from lots of family and friends that I just HAD to read it, or better yet listen to the audiobooks.

I got lucky. A few months ago we were clearing out stuff and I had 3 of these books and my wife asked if they could be donated. I said fine but then double checked on Ebay just to be sure. I realized I had the original print run with the cartoon covers and they were all going for $400+ dollars each. All of them sold within a day of listing them.

Currently on book 7 via a 2-month free Kindle Unlimited trial. So impressed that I'm planning to buy copies to own and this looks like the time to do so. Highly recommended even if the genre doesn't sound like it would appeal to you. It didn't to me and it still managed to impress me.
