I have it for over 10 years, changed the inner pot once for $60, and now I am looking for a stainless steel replacement. The manufacturer is aware of the coat peeling off and said in their manual it is ok but I am not sure if it is really ok to have the coating go through digestion.

It just shrinks your pecker and lowers your sperm count and maybe a little cancer. Nothing to worry about really.

We got the stainless steel pot for ours. Plus side is it can now go in the dishwasher, the minus is rice sticks to the sides and bottom now. Great for rice cooker clay pot rice though since you can actually get the crunchy bits now.
Pricey but I got this unit a few years ago. Many different type of rice and all come out perfect...100x better than my old $40 Target rice cooker or anything out of an Instant Pot. If you can handle the sticker price of this unit, it's totally worth it.

Some coating won't hurt you. I used peeled inner pot for years. No cancer or any ill affect.

i did not know about the umami setting. claude ai says it's worth it. Any of you humans out there agree with Claude. ai?
I don't know about umami setting but I use Zojirushi for the last 20 years. My wife got a cheap small cooker for travel and the same rice doesn't come out the same. But if you aren't Asian eating rice everyday then you may not notice the different.
Was just a generic off of Amazon, has worked well enough for the last 6 months or so. At the time the zojurushi branded replacements were almost the cost of a new cooker, so this was just a stop gap until one we wanted (MIJ, etc) went on sale. This has worked well enough that we haven't felt the need to replace since the cooker is still going strong after 15 years.

Same unit for 20 years or multiple? The battery dies eventually (maybe lasts a bit longer if you leave it always connected to AC mains) and it's almost impossible to change it yourself. Mine started degrading and was curious how yours has help up?

Battery for the clock/timer. It's more like a backup battery for memory if the unit is disconnected or you have power outage. Once the battery dies completely, timer will not work unless the clock is set. No problem if it's always left connected to AC or you never use timer. Cooking itself is not affected.
