For some context, this exact model at Microcenter was only $3910 in May before the recent Apple price increases.

Just wondering who has an extra $4.5K laying around to make this purchase after paying rent, student loans, car payments, food, gas, utilities, etc.???

Imagine the PC you could have built with $6K 1.5 years ago. When 128gb ram was $300 for overclocked 6000mhz DDR5 and you could get a 5090 for $1900

I'm some sort of Apple fan and would love to buy a MacBook one day, but good grief, that's a steep price. At a fraction of the price you could have an amazing PC build.

This is actually somewhat reasonable again after the RAM-based price hikes happened several months back. It sucks, but it was easy to see coming when top-end Macbook Pro prices started looking reasonable compared to the cost of DIY building a similarly spec'd desktop PC.

No phone should cost more than $100 to $200.
No laptop should cost more than $1,000.

Unfortunately, many people are willing to spend more than that.

Of course, $4,500 is still a good deal for this macbook pro.

Dr W. always does a great job posting slick deals.

For many people these are the primary (if not only) tool they use to earn their entire living.

The tools many other people use to earn their living are often many, many times more expensive.

...your opinion about arbitrary values for phones/laptops are out of touch with reality.
