I was able to pre-order the game and console on Nintendo the first hour they were posted. I'm not too sure about the scalpers theory. I mean how much are you going to profit on an item that's $575 after taxes and shipping? I can't see anyone paying more than $700 for this and it's just not worth the hassle to try and scalp them. I think the actual demand for these is just really high and they just sold out the first batch.

I often think about this and wonder if scalpers are just really terrible at math. I had an extra PS5 back in 2021 that I bought for someone, who ended up no longer wanting it. The return window had closed, so I sold it on eBay. I intentionally priced it to be as fair as possible without me losing money considering taxes, shipping fees and eBay fees. I think my profit was $50. Given that the price with tax was $535, that's less than a 10% profit, and that's not even taking into consideration the cost of shipping materials (which I just reused the box I had it shipped to me in, but that's not always an option), not to mention my time. The time it takes to receive and open the package, take pictures, create the eBay listing, repackage the item, create the shipping label, drive it to the distribution center or post office, all of that should be seen as part of work performed at an hourly rate. It's just not worth it at all. I have to assume these people are broke.To your other point, I don't doubt this was popular, but there's definitely plenty of reseller listings online.
