They look decently bright but they cast a circle on the ground due to their angle and cutoff. I'd have preferred a diffused edge rather than having a "spotlight" pointed at the ground

Any thoughts on what kind of batteries they use? Last time I installed solar night lights they had shitty nicad AAAs in them, destined to fail quick

The description on Amazon does not say explicitly. Most inexpensive solar pathway lights like this use NiCd cells, but the description says the battery is 3.7V, which hints at them using lithium batteries for these. NiCd cells are normally 1.2V. It's possible you get three NiCd cells, which would also be about 3.7V, but many lithium cells are 3.7V.
