OP made the model pretty distinct. The 3rd gen is $70 on sale right now, and for $40 difference you get only a 20% faster processor, the Amazon AI chip for better voice recognition, plus an improved mic array. Screen is the same 5.5-inch 960 x 480 LCD on this and the 3rd gen, camera still sucks on both, design is pretty similar.

I have 3 gen 2's and they glitch more and more lately. They screen freezes, Alexa doesn't respond sometimes and the WiFi connection sometimes drops.

I'd skip the gen 2 if possible. It's not future proof. They last long but a gen 3 would probably last you longer.

I got one to use for person detection triggers and it doesn't work yet randomly turns on at 3am so that's fun. It's slow before and after the UX update. Camera quality is horrible. I put these on my guest network and they work unlike Google home products and that's the only pro
