My experience with these kinds of mats is that they get very disgusting very fast. It works fine in theory - the mat will catch the dry litter and stop the cat from tracking it all over.

But any cat owner knows it's not that easy. Your cat is going to pee on that mat at least once, making any dry litter on the mat wet and stuck to it. Or your cat will zoom out of the litter box and get dirty litter on the mat. That litter, once wet, is not coming out of that mat very easy.

Maybe your cats are more sophisticated. Mine are not.

Target has its own generic litter trapping mat that has deeper patterned grooves rather than the mesh. I'm not sure if it's a knockoff of another brand or something but it works and doesn't trap litter. Merely facilitates it falling off the cat paw. Then it's easily removed by my robot vacuum when it cleans around the box. I had the same clump issues with this other type of litter mat and don't with the grooved kind. And you can just wash the grooves in a sink. The meshy kind are very difficult to get clean.

Agreed with other posters. I've gotten these mesh ones twice and if there's any sort of liquid (like a cat that likes to have hairballs or vomits on these mats...like mine does) and you happen to use clay litter, it gets gross really quickly.

I just bought a large silicon mat with raised edges, hoping it'll make it easier to rinse out or shake off as needed but yeah, I'm over these mesh mats personally after having bought two of them years ago (one for each of my cats' litter boxes).

Please share details regarding the specific mat you like from Target. They have several.

So good news is this thing will trap some litter. Bad news is good luck getting it out. Even if you shake this thing out over and over again it's almost impossible to get it all out. I've used ones like this for years so i don't have anything else to compare it to, but I'd like to get something else because I feel like there have to be better options than this.
