I know not everybody likes refurbs, but in this situation, just get the Secondipity refurbs for $216 on eBay.

certified refurbs with 2-year warranty instead of a 1-year warranty and you're out the door for $60 less.

Wait, so I know the XM5 had a problem with the hinge but then every review I've seen has been praising these. However found a Sony subreddit and they say that the hinges on these are just as bad as the XM6. They have like daily posts of people's headphones that have cracked. Is there any truth to that? Or just a loud minority?

Good recommendation! I've been hearing nothing but good things about Secondipity. My only issue is that I can't gift something not entirely new

If you wear it every day, maybe.
The hinges on the XM5 are not foldable, so I expect them to last longer.
The XM6 has foldable hinges again, and they seem much stronger when compared to the XM4.
I would say loud minority probably, this are meant to be kept in a case(the one it came with) when not used, not over someone's neck as a decoration.

It's more like $235 with tax. But this Greentoe deal is $278 including tax brand new. So I cancelled my ebay order and got this one

I did and it came with a defective pair. Returning it today.

Secondipity showing $299 on these. Do they run them cheaper at times? - EDIT...sorry, I just saw the deal listed, expired now. I'll keep an eye out.
