Would they really do that?
That said, it's possible you can disable some of those "protections" in the printer settings. But so many people have gotten screwed by simply doing a firmware update on their printer and suddenly that perfectly good Amazon cartridge that was $35 instead of $135 is blocked from working and your printer instantly becomes useless.
With inkjet printers, ALWAYS buy the tank style that take bottles of ink. Not only do they last a very long time but there is no way to put a "chip" in the ink so you can use any ink you want.
"Americas most trusted printer brand"...HA! 10 years ago maybe.
