For those wondering, tank printers can be cheaper per page than a laser printer. However you need to print a lot to take advantage of it.

Tank printers also have many of the same issues as regular cartridge inkjet printers. For example the nozzle is going to clog if you leave it sitting idle for long stretches. There are more moving parts and potential messes so that decreases its reliability over laser.

I downloaded a CMYK image from Wikipedia (big graphic of the primary colors). I print it every few weeks so all the print heads get used a decent amount without running a clean cycle. Works great.

Much better than HP which dumps ink almost every time you go to print.

Yes, any Ecotank can convert, just NEVER put the regular ink in it. If you got one free then you could do a massive clean out but it would probably be better to replace the lines. Just be sure to not let it sit idle for more than a few months or the lines/heads may clog and it is a btch to clear. I'm checking this out because my 2760 is clogged and full flushes aren't fixing it. Honestly though Sams has a ET-2400 for $170 and if you're doing sublimation then you won't need duplex or scan, etc. I'd just pick that up and spend the $30 difference on sublimation ink. I really want a printer that can do 11"+ wide, but both the 4800 and 2400 (and my 2760) only do 8.5" wide.

Bought this just about 2 weeks ago. Note that it has ADF capabilities so you can scan multiple pages by using the feed tray without having to do one by one manually

I'm hesitant to pull the trigger. The eco tank I have now is still on its first set of ink, but I don't print enough so the heads get dried up or clogged. It shaving paper feeding issues too, not sure if I should upgrade.

If this is converted over to a sublimation printer, probably worth it, but as a regular ink jet??? For any regular inkjet, no matter how big the tank, $200 is ridiculously high. Can get a laser on sale for that and it will last years longer.

If you don't print much, get a laser printer. Laser use dry, powered toner so you can let it sit literally for years and it will still print like it did the last time you used it. Laser printing doesn't smudge if it gets wet, etc. Literally, the paper will fall apart before the printing gets smudge by liquids hitting it.

The EcoTanks are some of the best non laser printers out there. Have had one from Costco for over 8 years and only issue I had was to unclog the black nozzle. Apparently if you don't print for a few months it can clog. Now we print more often with it and it hasn't happened. Repped! + Thumbsup

What's annoying about the "heads cog if not used" issue is they could trivially add an automatic head-clean schedule if they wanted.

For example: the printer knows how often each color is used, and if it goes over [defined threshold] then either cycle the nozzle into the waste tank or print onto a sheet of paper if there is no other solution. It "wastes paper" but still less waste than throwing away the printer.

I've been using only (color) laser printers for 2+ decades at this point. The only thing I have ever had to do is replace the paper when it runs out, and once in a blue moon a toner cartridge that finally is running out. Nothing clogs. If I don't print anything for 3 months, when I do it just works. I do however realize there are a few use cases where ink is definitely better, like printing photos. Everything else, I would never touch anything but a (drm free) laser printer.
