I think the updates to the base game were nice and solved a lot of my complaints (resolved performance issues, decreased weapon swap time, and adding a slo mo slider to make the game require more precision made me enjoy it a lot more on replay). If you have the premium edition I definitely recommend checking out the DLC, it has a really rewarding gameplay loop that fuses things from eternal with TDA combat.
