If anyone wants to go directly to Straight Talk's site, the A17 is free with their 1 month $45 plan directly from Straight Talk's site. Though not much has changed from the A16 to A17, but still newer and with the 1 month service.

Not worth would cost more than just buying phone unlocked like $35/month for 12 months so you paying $420 to unlock crappy phone. Used to be worth when was only like 2 months auto unlock but you can thank current govt for getting rid of that rule to allow corpo to make more profit.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) did not have a general 3-month (or 60-day) auto-unlock rule for all phones, but Verizon and its prepaid subsidiaries (like TracFone, Straight Talk, and Total Wireless) were uniquely bound by an FCC mandate to auto-unlock phones after 60 days. In January 2026, the FCC officially ended that requirement!
Old Rule: Verizon was required to automatically unlock phones 60 days after activation, which many consumers treated as a loophole to buy cheap subsidized prepaid hardware and use it elsewhere.
New Policy: For devices activated after January 12–20, 2026, prepaid brands under Verizon require 365 days of paid, active service before unlocking upon request not even automatic like it was before.
