1. Obviously check your spam if you haven't, and check the status of the order on Staples.com

2. is the charge 'pending' on your CC statement, sometimes these get held up in credit card approval limbo

I'm not sure why anyone would want to buy this instead of waiting for the next physical Visa or MC prepaid card deal.

Driving to store takes gas and time.

For most people it's not a waste of gas and time. Staples stores are usually located in some shopping center. For me it's next to a supermarket I have to go anyway. Physical card lets me use it in the stores, and makes it possible to overcharge more than $200 on the card. I can't do that with the digital card which can only be used online.

In some metro areas, physical gift cards are gone by 10:15am on Sunday. Way too many people are playing this game nowadays.

What I do is grab the un-activated cards from other retailers such as CVS or supermarket. When the no-fee promo is live, I don't have to fight with anybody to buy the cards. I just take out what I hoarded and go to a Staples to have them activated.

Do you know that taking unactivated cards is a felony in many states? Also, good luck proving that you are not planning to run scams with them.

You're correct. I don't recommend people doing it. But there is a legal doctrine known as de minimis non curat lex. It means that when the value is so low, $0.00 in this case, it's a waste of time and resources for the court to prosecute the case. One time I was in a Korean supermarket and some dude just kept taking the same free sample, enough for a meal. The store called the police but the police refused to go. It wasn't worth the resources for the police, and the store had to let the guy go (except he was blacklisted). The guy actually "stole"half a pack of that food so what he stole wasn't $0.00.

People use these prepaid cards on subscriptions or membership so they emptied the card before the next charge. That's just a breach of contract.
