Use the satellite coms built into your iPhone instead and it will cost you $0. Garmin charges crazy yearly fees and monthly service plans. They haven't yet figured out that cell phones work just as good (as tested by me recently a a 4 day hike into slot canyons). The iPhone performed just as good as any Garmin device.

Agreed. I used my cell phone in the Grand Canyon for a week. Way better than the inreach.

They're not going to be for everyone. Garmin has actually made updates to allow this to use SOS when your subscription is suspended basically only requiring you to be on their $8 enabled plan for a month every 13 months. This is more rugged than an iPhone and can last longer battery wise. It allows you to send regular tracking points to a map for family to view - helpful if you're unable to initiate an SOS. If you're comfortable without having any redundancy, stick with your phone and satellite SOS.

Tell me you don't know what you are talking about in terms of fees and why you actually would need this device..

Should also mention there is still an activation fee ($40, I think).
