Best advice I got was go to the store, hold them in your hand. Which one feels better, go with that one.

I''m using the M18 tools/platform while my contractor friend is on the Dewalt platform, so we have used both while working together. Both brands are high quality, and a bit pricey compared to the Ryobi and other "homeowner" quality brands.

If you are only looking at only one battery operated tool, go with whatever fits your pocketbook. But if you intend to expand your lineup I would stick to the same platform for battery compatibility. A major cost is the batteries, so it only makes sense to use the same one in all of your tools.

I see more great deals in the Milwaukee line (usually via Home Depot) here than the Dewalt stuff, so if eventual expansion is likely, I would go with that. I'm very happy with mine.

Got one with a dead/malfunctioning battery. maybe someone pulled a fast one. not sure if I want to online order another if they don't have one to swap in store. maybe it doesn't matter and just bad luck
