Not a good price. You can get a refurb Z50II for $630 on sale. I traded my D7500 for one.

Except you can get older used F mount lenses cheap vs. Z mount. So for those trying to snap on the cheap, this might be better. (Yes, I know you can get an adapter).

It's actually a bit hard to get - about once a month Nikon has a refurb sale, and only sometimes is the Z50II in stock. If it is it sells out quick, like in hours.

The reason I think the Z50II is better than the D7500 is that both are really meant for wildlife or sports, and while the Z50II is only 5.7 fps vs 8 fps for the D7500, the subject recognition and two generations newer AF means you'll get a lot more subjects in focus, or the eye will be in focus instead of the body.

Before people point out the Z50II can do 11 fps or whatever - if you use faster than 5.7 (Continuous High) you have to live with terrible viewfinder lag. Even on Continuous High, as soon as you start holding down the shutter, the viewfinder lags and you won't be able to see your subject. Despite that I find I can get better action shots with it. It also has pre-capture where it captures the second of action before you press the shutter, though it's JPEG only.

True - and in that case get the $500 Nikon refurb deal for D7500 that crops up every month, and if shooting wildlife, the 70-300 AFP DX VR is amazing for around $300 refurbished.

If you want to do true fast shooting you really have to move up to the Z6III (body is going to run you $2k new).

"Meant" for wildlife and sports? No. Decent at them? Yeah, ok. The 7500 probably better. Despite its age, the AF is probably better. It's a great camera, and i enjoy shooting it more than the d50ii (I prefer dslr vs mirror less while shooting, even z8. The d50ii is more for travel imho due to its size.

You may prefer the D7500, the viewfinder is definitely better since it doesn't lag while the shutter is held down.

But AF for birds in flight or sports is another story, the Z50II's Expeed 7 AF is two generations newer than the Expeed 5 of the D7500, and it is a big difference. I can get way more birds in focus with it than my old D7500, and I can even capture things like swallows in flight which is near impossible with the D7500. The Z50II targets the eye of the animal or person, the D7500 doesn't do that automatically so you'll often get the nose or body in focus and the eye out of focus. My DSLR lens also focuses better with the Z body. That's generally true of DSLR lenses.

If you're shooting bears or something you wouldn't notice any difference, although subject tracking also helps with framing the shot.
