I think most people looking at this deal are mainly judging this on the price and the 24/48 count. I don't think they even realize other features like supporting up to 8 channels for memory, ECC, and 128 PCIe lanes. You can probably make a better gaming machine with much cheaper hardware. However, you could easily have 4 or more high performing gaming VMs running on a system built with this. It's simply a different class of hardware.

It would definitely be overkill for most home labs. But that doesn't mean I don't look at deals like this wistfully...

AI modelers. I get to pick this up for a client today, though he ordered it when it was on sale for $1200 cheaper. And this is just for a developer's workstation, the servers have EPYC cpus and at least 4 nvidia GPUs in them.

A processor like this isn't for gaming. It's for people that makes a career of live streaming, 3D modeling, 3D designing, areas in tech fields. This is not a processor for everyday home usage.

This is for productivity use like animation, 3D rendering, video editing, software development, and data model processing. Great for small to med size business that won't need to buy large backend servers that could cost 10x the price.

Don't forget "being rich"

I'll keep my 9950X that I got used for $307 thank you. Wish I bought more ram before the greed and collusion took full effect.
