These cans are garbage and have the spline welds protruding outwards instead of inwards... absolute retardation of a product.

I hesitate to buy this because of the narrow base. Seems like if you're making a quick trip to the gas station, you'd have to lay it on its side in your trunk, in which case you'd be depending on the spout to keep it from spilling
this is 1930-ties german design proven in numerous wars, wildernes trips, etc. One can keep it on the back (but not on the side.
Totally understand it might not be for all though.

I had the prior version of this can with metal flexible spout that connected with hook and latch connection. The can was fine but I couldn't get it to stop leaking from the spout connection. Hopefully these spouts work better. Anyone have actual experience with these?
got those too - the original design. The secret is to fill slowly though it as the spout has breather hole. I have no issue with it

I like to wedge them standing up on the floor board behind the front seats.

What are the advantages of metal over plastic?
Non-ethanol fuel can be stored quite a bit longer if you're doing prepper shite.

I wouldn't trust these to stay sealed especially if you're carrying inside the car on a long trip. Get the Wavian Jerry Cans (or other NATO spec cans) if you want something that's indestructible and 100% vapor tight. They are pricey though.

Sadly these gas cans are not California compliant and cannot be shipped here. Not sure what that means but I guess it leaks a lot of vapor

You won't find metal can's any cheaper than this.....I have a bunch of the Chinese ones with the flip mil nozzles, yes the gaskets fall out and they leak. These are still miles ahead of all the plastic and us government anti-consumer cans. I'm in for two even if they're gifts.

Same thing happened to me. I ended up getting one of those cheap 1-gallon plastic cans and swapping the spout with it and it fit perfectly.

where did you find a 1 gallon plastic can with a latch and hook spout??

These look like the NATO cans but are bad copies. The seam should be recessed, and not protruding and not have any plastic, especially on the nozzle where it will break.
