Eligible to unlock after 12 months of paid service on Straight Talk (plans start at $35/mo.).

Can also be used with Total Wireless and Tracfone out of the box, without needing to unlock it first. If you do wish to unlock it after 12 months of using it on one of those two services, you will need to call the respective provider's customer service number and request to have your unit "rebranded" to Total Wireless or Tracfone first. Note: Not all customers service agents know how to do the rebranding, so you may have to call a few times until you get one.

However if you do not care about unlocking it eventually, and simply only want to use it strictly on Total Wireless / Tracfone out of the box, rebranding isn't necessary. Just use the device with your Total Wireless / Tracfone SIM card.

How do you use this with Tracfone? Could I buy the Tracfone from this deal https://slickdeals.net/f/19785843 and put the sim card in this phone and activate it and then it would unlock in a year?

The one year plan is tied to the IMEI of the phone comes with the yearly plan. Hence transfer is not possible.

Yes we could use sim card directly but it will not be unloced after one year, unless we do rebrand as described

Let me holler at my resident network unlocker guy to see if he's able to unlock this one. If so, I'll buy 2x.

Not sure I'm understanding your answer, but sounds like your saying if you debrand the phone you can use a plan that is/was attached to another phone towards the year requirement to unlock this phone...

In short, no you can't. Regardless of which tracfone brand your phone is (ST, TW, etc) the 1 year requirement stipulates that the plan purchased has to be activated/ attached to the phone you want to unlock

you can transfer another plan/ service to this phone. You can even debrand this phone from, example tracfone -> straighttalk, and then transfer another plan to this one. But that plans time won't count towards your unlock requirement

I think You could possibly buy the moto power phone with 1 year plan. activate the moto power , wait a week and then activate the new moto edge as a transfer service (keep existing number) etc.. You would need to buy a cheap 30 day plan or 90 day only minute plan to start the unlock clock on the moto edge, then you would still have your remaining year service... Although you will now have a leftover Moto Power G phone on your hands

I use this phone as my daily. Works great besides low-light pictures. Great battery life too. I am literally on this this all day long between Marketplace and Client calls/messaging. At this price point, it's great if you happen to already use one of the compatible service providers or don't mind switching to Straight Talk at $35/month. However, if you just want the phone, the overall price with the 12 months of service isn't worth it. Cheaper to buy factory unlocked.

Remember, if you are active duty service members, you can get these phones unlocked right away. Fee (up to $300 early unlock fee) is waived once you provide your details.

So, judging by the description, one can buy this phone, buy some crappy TracFone flip phone that comes with a 1-year plan, activate it, then call TracFone and have them move the line to the Moto (likely by way of a SIM kit)? Or am I too optimistic?

You can move it over via sim kit or esim I imagine. You will just have to chat with tracfone to "rebrand" the phone before moving it to your existing cheapo year plan. You will need to buy a cheap 90 day plan (19.99 at walmart) and add it to your newly activated edge tracfone account to start the unlock clock

Yeah, it seems to be you really need to desire this particular phone to go through all of the contortions (swapping lines, keeping it for a year, gambling on TracFone CS "rebranding" your phone, etc). I mean, Moto Edge '24 is a good phone, but it is not that good to go through all of this. Better pay $100 extra on eBay or Swappa.

And still the phone won't unlock after all those hoops. Not worth the stress at all.
