I've heard better things on the 5 over the 6. Anyone have any experience? Worth 300 for portability over 300 bucks in plug in sound?

It is a top performing speaker in its size and weight class. I am not a JBL fanboy but this speaker gets great reviews from all the speaker testers.

You can get great sound from a Soundcore boom 2 or Tribit Lava for much less but if you want the punchiest bass in a small package the JBL can deliver.

I've returned Extreme 3 before. All it had was Bass Tasss, Bass Tssss and above 60-70% volume it changed its sound signature so bad - terrible speaker. Got a Soundcore Boom 2 after that - much more balanced and compact speaker, sounding better after some serious EQ adjustments (the EQ of the extreme 3 was a joke). The handle of the Boom is more convenient IMHO.

Somehow I think the Boom2 Plus is going to destroy this Extreme 5. For almost half the cost.

I snagged this at my local Walmart since it was the same $300 there. Funny how the JBL X4 was still $329.

I returned the extreme 3 when it first came out I agree sound was not great. I bought a Boombox3 and than a 2nd . Paired together I haven't heard a better portable solution. My main purpose was a classic car convertible I did not want to wire a stereo system in however it's been over a year now and I've found many other uses for them. I know a BB4 came out since haven't heard it yet in person. I've seen reports the Sony field 7 sounded better than a BB3 , I've had mine next to a field 7 and I like the BB3 better.
