Would I probably remember where I parked without an AirTag? Yes. But eliminating even a small chance of wandering around an enormous parking structure at the end of a long day is easily worth the cost.
What is strange is treating the use of a convenient tool as some kind of moral failure. Remembering a parking spot is not a character test, and choosing not to waste attention on something technology can handle does not make someone careless or negligent.
Some people use tools to make their lives easier. Others refuse to adapt, then rebrand that refusal as discipline and superiority. Just because you grew up without modern technology does not mean everyone else is obligated to inconvenience themselves to prove they could survive without it.
It's good to keep in places where you leave it and forget it and have a lot of space like luggage, backpack, car, etc...

Put in the airtag and two new energizer lithiums, close it shut its waterproof, now put on that super strong tape over the whole length of the back, the tape is the perfect width. Tape on the side that has the screws as you want that inaccessible. Now tape that to some flat surface like a e-bike (if its a square frame) or car top windshield or if you want to be more sneaky (loses a little bit of range) attach it to your airbox under the hood (or some other place designed not to get too hot).
Even with a screwdriver its very time consuming trying to get it off with that 50lb per inch tape, time that will allow you to track your stolen device if they even recognize that's where the airtag was coming from because it doesn't really look like anything.
These are pretty great, and I wish I hadn't just recently bought four of these!
5 years instead of 10 years like this one. Personally, this is the better deal for 10 year set it and forget it and you get 4x cheap.

I remember where I parked. It's really not that hard to do.
Remember, some of us pre-date the internet here. We never had al-slop, sat-nav, or other such digital crutches to aid us. We had to figure things out normally...! And if we didn't, then there was no one around to help us... we had to figure out the solution to our own negligence...! You learned REALLY FAST to not be careless.

Swapping our batteries yearly may be fine for you but it does not mean there aren't tons of people who just like to set it and forget it. It can be slapped onto luggages, bikes, bags of valuable equipment like cameras etc. I've had so many times where my battery is just dead and I don't get to replacing it for weeks or months. Do you HAVE to be constantly losing your items for this to be worth? No, the ease of mind may be good enough for many.
