It's for that reason why I would prefer this over a truck bed tent (or any tent in general). I did a few days in a truck bed tent recently. Setting it up and breaking it down every day and night (in the dark) was way more of a hassle than it's worth.

Thought about getting this RTT last time it was on sale for about this much, but someone pointed out that without a rainfly it was just begging to collect a bunch of water in and around the base.

Pass. This is daily price anyway on this no name product. Probably a hundred others on amazon or aliexpress for the same price.

I've owned a nearly identical tent and even when it was free I gave it back. Super PITA..... I've spent a few hundred nights in RTT and I have owned never every style. You want a tent that can be closed with your bedding inside. Clam shell style is the fastest to deploy and put away, not even a minuet if it can hold your bedding. Full popup is nice especially for two people Wink

but takes a few minutes longer to take down.

Not at all. I've relocated campsites a few times with my rtt fully deployed, just collapsed the ladder a bit to secure it to my truck. I usually get to my destination well past sundown and just want to quickly setup so I can sleep. Then in the morning I look around and almost always find a better spot, e.g., flatter, more secluded, better spot for a campfire, etc. It's a thousand times easier than relocating a ground tent.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a quick trip to the store. When you're staying someplace more than overnight you've got to pack it all up to do something that you'd just drive away from a normal tent.

I get that it's about how a person chooses to camp. I just imagine noobs realizing the limitations inconveniently.

I own a significantly more expensive and larger RTT. I have camped a lot in my life, including solo camps and camped all over the world. That said I prefer a RTT. It's all personal preference. But I prefer the security of it (less chance of waking up and some stranger is standing over you or in front of your entry). Less chance of bugs and wet ground (yes I set my tent up on a tarp first, highest point of the area, away from a wash route). And most importantly, the missus loves it. Not everyone is a camper, but a RTT makes it way more appealing for casual outside visitors.

Everything is relative and personal taste. I don't fault one way or another. I keep my ground tent in my shed just in case. It is actually way more convenient and obviously lighter. But I do enjoy my RTT.

I don't think you realize how fast some rooftop tents are to setup and take down. I had to pack up during a blizzard once, didn't time it but it was probably just over a minute. Less than two definitely. There's pros and cons to it vs a ground tent but setup times it's vastly superior.
