So the problem with the battery like this is that they are non-rechargeable, and you can't throw them away because they are lithium ion, you have to take these to special battery recycle places, which becomes a new errand in your future it is very annoying

You shouldn't be throwing away any batteries in the trash. More places take lithium and NICad than regular alkaline.

I would stick to alkaline. I know 9v lithium are not compatible.

Yes but they'll just die though you might not get the chirp. But they will last longer.

Do you by any chance know the advantage of a smoke detector that has a replaceable battery vs. Ones that are just self contained for the life of the unit, whether as the primary power source or backup for AC? Other than AA/9v being commonly available and perhaps faster to replace vs. getting a smoke detector.

All smoke detectors have a life and need to be replaced. The sealed battery units will have a 10 year warranty as well. So I think they're better because you don't need to replace batteries ever and if they die earlier you get a replacement anyway.
