The US version is the situation is comedy but then the actors (surgically the leading male) is intentionally acting comedically. It's usually snarky, but he's cracking jokes.
It's like chocolate ice cream versus pear sorbet. Both are delicious on their own but each has a very different mood, yet both are frozen desserts.
Watched and was sad when they end the UK version though.
