This is a Chromebook, a MacBook is 100 percent better for the price. This is coming from someone who used a Chromebook for 8 years through elementary and middle school many years back

There's a world of difference between the Chromebook you used years ago and this particular Chromebook. Someone who is not used to the MacOS or its Apple ecosystem would not be eyeing the Neo, and instead either WindowsOS or ChromeOS.

The neo is apple's answer to a Chromebook, just with worse specs. If you want to run Mac OS and don't want a year old air or to spend over $600, then it's for you.

8 GB of RAM and a low end i3 will definitely deliver a bad experience long term. The machine in the post is significantly more powerful and premium, I just don't trust ASUS long terms in hardware reliability personally.

The first impressions and first batch of MacBook Neo reviews already show 8GB is more than capable. MacOS apps are optimized so much better than anything for Windows. Some of the reviews showed good enough performance in Lightroom and Final Cut even.

While I absolutely agree that the specs on this Chromebook are better, I would still say that the Neo provides more functionality IF the buyer also uses an iPhone. I say that as a big fan of Chromebooks. I've owned many.
I will say that this Chromebook would make an excellent GeForce Now laptop. I currently own an Acer 516GE that also has a 120Hz panel. But for $600? No. For a GeForce Now Chromebook I would still recommend a used Acer 516 GE for $300-$350. This is where the Neo is a market disruptor. Also, all of those better features really don't add to the functionality of the device. Touch is nice, but not necessary. Same for the Thunderbolt ports. Faster processor? For what? It's a 2024 processor. Similar to the one in my 516 GE (which is plenty powerful). More memory? Absolutely true, but it really doesn't matter for a Chromebook. 8GB is fine. Same as the Neo.
Not saying it's a bad Chromebook, but the low end has shifted. The only thing this has going for it is a really nice fast screen.

16 GB for Google flow of course, 8gb just won't cut it
