Seems like a good price for a tool that rarely goes on sale (at least by my experience).

Have one. Don't use it often but love it for when I do want it.
Does a decent case for this exist?

Ordered 1. I had seen the atom previously on liquidation for 80 bucks, but passed as it's way too small. If I was an electrician I would have gotten it. Unlike the M12 thhat can do 2in thus including most of residential plumbing boilers.

Might as well go for the big daddy.

Stewed on this long enough and it was still on sale so I pulled the trigger. Can't hardly touch a used one in decent shape for that price.

Curious - what application is this a must or at least helpful over other cordless saws?

Commercial/industrial plumber here. We use handheld bandsaws like this to cut allthread rod and pipe. With an appropriate blade the resulting cut is clean and nearly free of burrs.

I use mine to cut a lot of EMT conduit for target stands - so quick and easy. Thinking of some of some future MakerPipe.com projects in the near future. Love this tool - rarely on sale - get it, if you have a use for it.

Got it $126 with a battery and a charger from Homedepot last July. Seems it was a great deal!

Someone was reading my mind. I literally needed this 2 days ago. I have the smaller one, and it was just 1/4" too small for what I was working on. Purchased!
Even better, I had over $100 worth of Amazon reward points to use toward it, making the deal even slicker.

Mainly cutting metal stock. It can cut wood and plastic as well if need be, but the primary use for one of these is in cutting pipes, channels, bar stock, etc. Faster (in my experience) and much cleaner than using a cut off disc as well. See also the plumber's answer. I had one of the 4x6 bandsaws for a long time, now I have one of these and it's portable. Smaller cutting area, and not fixable in a mounted position easily, but more useful.

I've heard from a commercial sprinkler installer that the current generation of DeWalt portabands is not as robust as they used to make them. I don't have a desperate need for one, but wonder if anyone else has any known durability concerns. Maybe not an issue for more casual use I assume.

SWAG makes their portaband tables for these:
