Use on both Android and iOS, but which ecosystem does it actually uses to locate items? That makes a big difference. Or does it actually uses both (which would be the first time I have heard of such a tracker)?

Huh ? (as with most of these) it does the basics of both. Nowhere does it say it's an Apple product....so it's not obviously going to fully be on their ecosystem.

Regardless (as the name says), it's more designed around the Life360 system for tracking.

Android trackers uses other android devices to pin point its location. IOS trackers uses other iOS devices to track its location. So you are telling me this tracker relies solely on other Life360 devices? That doesn't make sense. Does it have its own GPS built in? That seems like it drain battery very quickly but maybe that's what it uses hence the need to replace the battery easily?

That's not what I said. It's just a basic (non-apple) tracker.

No reason to get this unless you want it for more of the Life360 integration.

If not get one of the cheapie ~ $10 or so ones listed here (which would make $40 for a 4-set)

It uses any smartphone that has the Tile app installed. Android or iOS.

You didn't answer my question. What it uses to track the location matter. In the US, there more iphones than Android phones in most areas, so a system that uses Apple Find Me service will give you better results than Android based systems (ie Samsung trackers). Even though I am an Android guy, I use trackers that are iOS based for this reason. I put it in my suitcase and the chances of it giving me a location is higher than Android based systems.

Yes. It actually performs very well. It's not "terrible" at all. There are plenty of both apple and android people that use Tile. Not as good as AirTag but much better than any other android tag currently - according to PC Mag.

Most generic third party tracker uses Apple Find Me for location service, while this does not. That's a big difference. It relies on another phone nearby that has the Life360 app installed.

My original question was based on the prospect that this uses Apple Find My and Android location service for the best of both worlds, but it does not, so I also don't see the point of something like this that requires a membership also.

I wonder how old is that article? I can't imagine there being more Tile app users than Android phone users in the US and definitely not the world.

It's not all android phones. You need to enable the permissions on an Android phone to participate in the find hub network. So unless the user has a tracking device, they have those off by default. So the Tile network is probably larger for now until if/when more people start using find hub. Also the biggest maker of android phones - Samsung - uses their own tracking network and not Find Hub.
