If you start throwing up, call 911 and go straight to the hospital. I've had - and almost died from - an abcess one time, and if you get to the throwing up stage you literally only have hours before it can kill you. Of course I didn't know that at the time, but I was lucky to have everything fall into place to keep me alive. It's also the time I learned - after the surgery - that I had developed a life threatening allergy to ibuprophen based products.

I have plenty of cloves and was going to offer to mail you some, but it sounds like your level of pain and the advancement of the abcess is too much for this to get to you in time for it to be of any use. Schnauzermomma is right. If it's that bad. you should get immediate attention. I had an abcess once, went into the dentist and they called the endodontist and sent me right over for an emergency root canal the same afternoon. It sounds like you need one, and they may have to prescribe anitbiotics before you can have the procedure done (depending on the level of infection in the abcess), so if you can get to an urgent care center today that's probably the cheapest route to get cleared to see a dentist the soonest.

I've had an abscess before and it was like this one in that I had to get through the weekend before I could get treatment. I really hope that I don't get to the throwing up stage and have to go to the hospital tonight. I'm doing ok as long as I avoid one spot in my mouth.

This is what hapened to me, but I was so sick I couldn't drive and they had to do it under general anesthesia and a full on surgery. I had this tube in my mouth for a week to drain the abscess. It was terribly disgusting.

I tried to sleep, got in about one hour before I woke up. We're going to the beach in the morning so I can't just sleep in but at least my pain is a lot less than yours (shoulder is still healing). I hope you get to ER and dentist ASAP, maybe even a Miracle Monday event!!

So I survived this trip to the beach..
No wave took me down this time.
I had asked at PT how to get up if I fell, without PULLING myself up which is how I re-injured my shoulder.
PT doc told me I should have a cane for backup. And there would be some be sized for 5'-5'4"
I checked online CVS - my annual subscription would bring the price from $30 to $23 (CVS brand, I guess) and I have $17 in ECB so not bad. But no store near me showed any in stock.
So I looked at MIL's town, where we would be to pick up DH's visiting cousins & reason for beach trip. None there, either. I'd have to have them shipped.
Finally, I checked Half Moon Bay, our beach destination. THEY listed several.
So the rest of the group kindly let me stop and look. They only had 3 models, one said 30"-39" (the length it would telescope) but not anything about MY height & if it was the proper one
and the base was a ---quadpod? Like a tripod but 4 feet. And if felt wobbly. The feet on the left were aligned directly below the device,the other 2 stuck out more to the right. So I left it (I can still order online). Maybe the cane could be rotated and those 2 feet should be in the front or back?

I think I'd prefer folding to telescoping, anyway.

I used my (tall) MIL's cane while on the beach - 2" taller and it would qualify as a crutch on me. My hand went numb but it probably made getting back to the car possible. My LEG got very painful after we strolled on the beach a while - it's still bruised from being the point of impact where I fell last time but the pain was in the front, not the bruised up part. Getting old is weird.

I've never been able to use a cane properly. I can't imagine using it on the sand. It would definitely be a comedy show. I went to the hospital yesterday but it was an awful trip. The antibiotics helped with the pain but I don't know when I'm going to be able to see the dentist due to all of the hoops I have to jump thru. I need emergency care but everybody is telling me to go see somebody else. The dentist told me to go to the ER. The ER doctor told me to go to the cardiologist. I wonder where the cardiologist will tell me to go and I have to wait 2 weeks to see him. Meanwhile, my mouth is killing me...

I woke up too early, looked at online CVS and either the canes don't accommodate my height (30" cane) or reviewed really badly- the one I looked at in Half Moon Bay had numerous reports of the quad thingy breaking/falling off(!) while in use and caused at least one fall.

Then another card w/ no ECB got 50% off anything, so I looked at their non-CVS brand canes but it looks like I'll have to get one off Amazon. Shopping is too much work.

I'm not sure what WOULD work at the beach, except going to Pismo if cars are still allowed on it. It's where we took my (bio) mom b/c it was the only one she could get near the water in a wheelchair.

My ankle kept on going out on my short walk to Vons this morning. It looks like I need a cane, too.
