I'm glad I'm not the only one hoping for a better 2026 but at this point I'm not very optimistic (and I can honestly say this may be the first time in my life that I've felt this way).
Today doesn't seem to be a great start - snow outside covering a layer of slippery ice and a wonderful 6 degrees out with a predicted high today of 14 with more snow. At least the strong winds have stopped for now so we won't have blizzard-like conditions.

I can't imagine living where it is that cold and messy. It's a sunny morning here and the high is supposed to be 70+ today.

When we lived in PA, a big one was to eat pork on new year's day. Since I love pork and sauerkraut made in the slow cooker, I would often make that. Too bad I hadn't thought of it earlier, because with the cold weather that would have been a great meal today.

My boss was surprised I hadn't ordered more because he thought everyone knew that it was considered lucky to eat them on NY
IIRC the disappointed customers who asked about them were all Asian or Black. So I presume an ethnic think? Maybe came from the South as a USA tradition.
I tried them one year and didn't like them at all. Maybe something one has to be raised with to like ?

My tradition used to be to try to get things together for the new year. We would get our favorite foods for New Year's Eve, I'd try to straighten up a little, things like that.
This year I used some of my newly acquired hair dye late late at night (like 2 am) on the 31st. I had taken half a sleeping pill and some Benadryl and wasn't my best self. I wanted to go redder (inspired by Stephanie Ruhle's hair) but for some dumb reason I only did the roots, because they were gray. I have entered the new year with starkly two-tone hair.
