90s - Norton was useful
2020s - Norton is snakeoil, excessive branding, upsells, poor performance, ruins SSDs, and o think they got caught running crypto miners on machines.

Been using Norton since the days of 3.5" disks but I'm fed up with the constant upselling. Watching for a Bitdefender Black Friday deal.

Thinking of ditching Norton this year for Malwarbytes. Is it a better alternative? Thanks

Current Bitdefender user. Tried it 3 times, still hate it. Too much false alarm. Over control of my computer. High maintenance. Missed it when I used Norton 10 years ago, they were just quietly doing their job at the back end.

So many corporate/commercial users are still using Norton/McAfee but comments here suggest that Norton is not a favorite for many, so wondering what are better alternatives to Norton/McAfee?

I am an existing long time Norton customer - hate their business practices and model - but their virus software has always done a good job for me personally. I bought the Norton 360 Deluxe 2026, Antivirus software for 5 Devices license for $11.99. Easy to buy, license key arrived in about 2 minutes in my email.

It was very easy to add the license to my Norton account. You have to provide a credit card for the renewal, but once you get it all set up you can immediately cancel the ongoing auto renewals and remove your payment information from your account. That way they won't surprise you 11 months later with a renewal of more than $100.

This was a really good deal. The best deal Norton offered me was $40 for 1 year or $80 for 2 years for this same license.
