The Echo Show 5 3rd gen is only $15 more at $59 which to me would be worth the small additional cost. I like the simplicity of this Spot, but the Show 5 has the added functionality of being able to show your Ring cameras when you ask. I love that I can see who is at my door or what's happening in my backyard right on my night stand. The AI features look cool--thanks for sharing those in this thread. Alexa truly has gotten so dumb (maybe more dumb than Siri if you still have an older phone that isn't Apple AI compatible). Nice that they are including that service with Prime.
enjoy the forced ads on your echo show. the huge selling point of devices like like echo spot and echo hub is the ability to completely disable the ads that keep popping up.

That's great advice, thanks for pointing that out. The ads on my existing Show 5 don't really bother me or I guess I don't find them intrusive, so for me not worth it to sacrifice being able to see my Ring cameras or do video calling with my kids who also have Echo Show 5s. My younger kid is too young to have a phone so dropping in on her Show 5 is super handy. How are you able to tell which of these devices has ads and which don't?

I doubt it will be lower on Prime day. You can get it now. But Prime day is lower, then return it.

Ever since they started recording without permission and you literally have to turn it off to stop I'm out.
Just plain wrong. It records only when you say the wake word, or something similar sounding

usually the ones with better resolutions and better sound qualities will always have ads forced into them. it's part of the reason why the prices are usually lower. also, i'm not sure if it still works but you used to be able to set some of those amazon show devices to kids mode to bypass ads.

2nd this. All want the echo show 5 is displaying the time. But it keeps on pushing me all kinds of things. I disabled all of them, then little by little, Amazon added them all back. When I look at my echo show 5 for time, it detects I am looking, then immediately show some ads. As a result, I have to glimpse, pretending I am not looking. Finally, I turned off its camera, but somehow it can still detect I am looking at it.

Picked this up for the BR primarily for the clock function. Delivered next day and emails let you configure ahead of time for a quicker install. I like the auto dimming feature and noticed it even switched to red numerals during the dark nighttime hours so as not to damage your night vision. As far as i know this is the lowest price it has been. Like others mentioned it has no ads like a show so was exactly what I wanted.

I have this. It's ok but overall, but I wouldn't buy it again for the purpose of an alarm clock. My grief is with the snooze function. You have to slap the top of it to snooze and sometimes it works and sometimes you have to knock the hell out of it. Even a bigger issue is stopping the snooze early if you decide to get up and not let the snooze alarm go off again. Once you have hit snooze you can't stop the snooze alarm without cancelling the entire alarm which doesn't just cancel it for the day, it cancels it for your reoccurring days and then you have to set it back up in the app. You have to wait and let the snooze alarm go off, you can then hit the tiny cancel icon and cancel it for the day only. If there's a secret method to cancel the snooze early from the alarm clock, i've never found it.

If you don't want to use it fine but just say you dont want it then. They dont record without your permission, ever.
that's not true a few months back they started recording all the time with or without your permissions https://www.waka.com/2025/03/21/w...rding-you/

And now, Amazon is making changes to how those recordings are handled, raising some privacy concerns.
Currently, Echo devices listen for their wake word, and when triggered, record a brief audio clip in case you're issuing a command. Previously, users could opt out of having these recordings sent to Amazon.
However, starting March 28th, that will change. Amazon has announced it will automatically upload all recordings to its servers, and there will be no option to opt out.

Change language to Canadian English. It made it a lot better though still "scrolls" through the blank "ad", it appears but at least it does not SHOW ad.

Echo show looks like wonderful deal at only few $ more, BUT as alarm clock, it is VERY mediocre.

I thought these would be useful but I ended up getting a normal larger clock that you can read from across the room and a Google gome
