I finally decided to play Miles last year but I decided to only do the main story mission to avoid getting burnt out, by doing that I enjoyed the game. So the lesson there for me was doing the main story missions only is okay, you don't have to complete every single optional side mission if it's not enjoyable to you.
You should be able to find a used copy of Miles for $15 or so, it's definitely worth playing if you're going to play this series. I totally disagree with the person who said to skip it because it's short. The length of the game was fine to me, but I'm someone who doesn't want to sink tons of hours into a single game unless those extra missions are fun to me. I did enjoy doing the extra missions for Horizon Zero Dawn games for example but for whatever reason Spiderman 1 just felt tedious to me.
