Well you'd specifically want the nova variant but 7x is compatible with Xbox and other platforms while the 7/7p aren't Xbox compatible.

Agreed. I had the same. Expected great things, got a really inconsistent experience instead.

I gave up on these "gaming" headsets for my Xbox. I just got some cheap refurbished Sony XM4s, set up the EQ just the way I wanted and got myself one of those VMODA Boom Mics, and the experience is so much better than any gaming headset I've ever tried.

Well the 9x isn't a newer nova variant so it's apples to oranges.

SteelSeries makes a good product but their lineup/naming is confusing as hell. I own an older Arctis 7 and Arctis 9x and even I can't explain their lineup.

The Arctis 7 has 2.4 GHz wireless but according to their table it *doesn't* come with a "compact USB C dongle", so I have no clue how that's supposed to work. The Nova 7x has 2.4 ghz *and* bluetooth *and* a USB dongle. So it has built in Xbox proprietary protocol and a dongle?

They really need to just revamp their naming.

It's a generational thing. Nova line is the newest. Imo don't get anything without Nova in the name. And it's not just a "make sure get the latest, just because it's the newest" argument either: The older generation arctis ones have weak earcup hinges which plague the entire line and you can find mountains of people complaining about their headsets falling apart, with endless pictures posted. My arctis 9x met its demise this way. Replaced with Nova Pro Wireless.
They redesigned the hinge system on the Nova and can definitely tell it's much beefier. I haven't heard of a case yet of a Nova series headset hinge failing.

I've heard good things with the 7X/7P line as well. The Nova Pro Wireless just has extra features here and there (along with a much higher price point to show for it).
