EDIT: Figured it out. My phone browser wasn't allowing it to work. Was able to replicate the deal on my PC. ty!

It isn't really tricky. Easiest way is to order both and return the battery. The online order will show a breakdown of values for the tool and the battery. The tricky part is you can set it up so you don't need to do anything to return the battery. I live right by a Homedepot so I just return it in person.

Could anyone here please tell me whether Milwaukee has a compatible vacuum system for this unit? I would like to take some core samples in an old gold mine my family owns, but I am worried about the dust that this would generate. Is this the right drill for that kind of job?

Buy tool + free battery, go to store to return battery, home depot tells you you can't return the battery because of "the retail equation" , make 2 more trips to the store to argue with different managers, finally they relent and let you return the battery, deal achieved.

i've been returning the "free" items to HD, for the clearly printed prorated value, for years... several different stores, never once needed a manager. just hand them the battery/tool, give them the online order number and done. i've also ordered items at different stores, pick up the one i want, call and cancel the other item without a single issue.

The problem with home depot and "the retail equation" doesn't have anything to do with the milwaukee hacks specifically, it's just that for some unknown reason all of a sudden you get blacklisted and can't return "high fraud" items like power tools. I have bought thousands from home depot in the last 5 years and maybe returned one thing a year. I never had a problem, and then all of a sudden I had a problem this spring with a milwaukee tool "hack". Home depot says "we can't do anything, call the retail equation" and the retail equation can't tell you anything. It might have something to do with the particular store I went to, but bottom line I avoid buying anything from home depot that I might need to return now.

Not a joke, my family's gold mine is over 150 years old and came free with a property in Colorado. There are thousands of inexpensive old mines and surface claims throughout the Rocky Mountains for anyone who is interested. You can also stake your own claim in certain areas. Gold prospecting is a fun, potentially profitable, and sometimes dangerous hobby for anyone who is interested.

Answering my own question, it looks like the M18 Hammervac Dust Extractor (2912) is the corresponding vacuum for this drill.

Yeah, agree to that. Sorry for the off-topic post. But it's worth to note that many RICH people got rich because they are frugal and know how to pay less for the same product/service. It's mis-concept that rich people don't need to save.

Yes, if that deal was still there I would have picked it up. It wasn't there by the time I got there. I have no need for this tool at the moment and although I'm OP I'm not buying.
