Are these safe to use? I've heard you don't want to restrict the air because it will cause the unit to work harder and cause it to ware out sooner.

I don't get what this will do. I get it'll prevent leaves from falling into the unit, but then what? They just sit on top? Unless you're clearing this regularly, I don't see the point. Even then I don't really see the point. Just clean out your unit at the beginning of the season. It takes like 30 mins. A couple screws, can of cleaner and a garden hose

They're good for winter storage unless your system works as a heat pump.

Other than that, they cause more problems than they solve.
